Darkness descends on the bamboo forest as the sun falls in the horizon. The rustling leaves overhead force the hairs on the back of your neck to stand to attention as the picturesque scenery takes hold. Slowly, delicately, your hand grasps the hilt of the katana strapped to the side of your kimono. All of a sudden …
You wake up. You’re not in Shogunate Japan. You’re in Montrose, less than an hour’s drive from the Melbourne CBD. There are no ronin or Samurai here to duel in the bamboo fields. Or maybe your partner is one. We just don’t know.
If you’re anything like us, the thought of being the most feared Shogun in all of the feudal period definitely ranks highly on the ego-inflating agenda. We may not yet have the ability to travel through time and kick Minamoto Yoritomo off his perch, but we do have the ability to live like Japanese royalty at the middle-ages themed resort.
What you will find here is something completely out of the ordinary. A resort constructed as if it belonged to a Japanese emperor; Shoji paper walls, bamboo carpet mats, and a traditional dinner for you to enjoy. The bamboo forest outside even has enclosed hot springs for your use.
It’s half romance, half nature, half bad-ass, and half awesome. That’s right. It’s an excellent date, times two. Now top off your saki and go chase those happy dreams.
Kanpai! (That’s Japanese for “cheers!”)
